Zone-wide geophysics survey underway

Almost 7000 line kilometres will be covered by a zone-wide acoustic and geophysical survey which is now underway across the Dogger Bank Zone.

The survey, being carried out by Gardline Hydro, will follow a 2.5 km by 2.5 km grid across the whole zone. It will provide an overview of the seabed nature and bathymetry; identify any obstructions, such as archaeology, environmental or debris; acquire geological data and identify structures; map features, and provide seabed acoustic data.

The information received will feed into a full geological assessment, look at implications for foundation design and enable planning to take place in front of a more intensive engineering survey. It will assist with the complete zonal appraisal and planning process which Forewind is undertaking to identify wind farm development tranches within the Dogger Bank Zone. Additional tranche-specific surveys will follow.

The geophysical survey started last week and will be completed around mid-August. It will be carried out alongside the bird and marine mammal survey that is now taking place.
