Dogger Bank Teesside

Dogger Bank Teesside is Forewind’s second stage of development of the Dogger Bank Zone. This stage will comprise four wind farms, each with a maximum installed capacity of 1.2GW. They are expected to connect to the national grid in Teesside, just south of the Tees Estuary.

The whole development could have a total generating capacity of up to 4.8GW which means Dogger Bank Teesside has the potential to generate almost 17 Terawatt hours (TWh) of green power every year, which is equivalent to the electricity used annually by approximately 3.6 million British homes [1].

The first two wind farms are:

Dogger Bank Teesside A located within the eastern part of Tranche B, with a size of 560km2 and with closest point from shore at 196km.

Dogger Bank Teesside B which straddles Tranche A and Tranche B, with the majority of the project located in Tranche B. It is593km2 and is 165km from shore at its closest point.

These two wind farms will be subject to a single consent and the indicative development programme for them is below.

Development programme
Date Activity
Q2 2012 First stage of statutory consultation
2012 - 2013 Environmental surveys and reporting
Q3 2013 Second stage of statutory consultation
Q1 2014 Submit applications for development consent order(s)
Q2 2015 Application(s) determined
2015 - 2017 Pre-construction phase
2016 - 2021 Construction
2017 onwards Operation

Further surveys and modelling will continue to identify the boundaries for the additional two offshore wind farm projects with agreed grid connections in Teesside (Teesside C and D). These will also be subject to a single consent with the development programme to be finalised.
