The wealth of career opportunities offered by the growing offshore wind energy industry will be the focus of a presentation given by Forewind together with The Crown Estate at a meeting of careers counsellors and training service providers in the Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire region, next week.

Forewind, development partner for the Dogger Bank offshore wind farm zone, will begin its preliminary onshore surveys this week as part of its investigations into potential corridors for the onshore underground cables that will connect its first wind farm project with the national grid at the Creyke Beck substation, near Cottingham in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

The second wave buoy has been deployed on Dogger Bank this week to start measuring the site’s wave height and direction, as well as its currents.

All the reports and presentations from the Forewind stakeholder workshops held in April in Hull, Newcastle and London are now available online for comment by Friday, August 13.

Almost 7000 line kilometres will be covered by a zone-wide acoustic and geophysical survey which is now underway across the Dogger Bank Zone.

Forewind, together with The Crown Estate and assistance from UK-wide Regional Development Agencies, has launched a web-based Supply Chain Contacts Directory which provides a snapshot of all the companies which attended the recent series of countrywide supply chain events.

The UK Offshore Wind Supply Chain Contacts Directory is now live and can be accessed at http://www.supplychaindirectory.co.uk.

The site aims to enable easy access for companies looking for relevant skills, goods or services across the UK offshore wind industry supply chain and provides a snapshot of all those who attended, or planned to attend, the 12 supply chain events is early 2010.

Forewind’s Head of Engineering and Supply Chain, Dr Mark Legerton, said the directory should provide a useful source of information for anyone with specific supply chain requirements.

Forewind has started its extensive data gathering process on Dogger Bank with the award of a contract to Gardline Environmental Limited, part of Gardline Marine Sciences Limited, to provide ornithological surveys services to the project.

The Crown Estate has announced that the Forewind consortium, comprising four leading international energy companies, has been named as the successful development partner for the largest zone in the third licence round (Round 3) for UK offshore wind farms, Dogger Bank.
